Astronomers have discovered a star, HIP 56948, which they believe is almost identical to our own Sun. It is less than 200 light years from Earth. It is so similar in size, mass, temperature, and chemical composition to the Sun, that no discernable differences were detected during high-resolution observations performed by the 2.7-metre telescope at the McDonald Observatory in Texas.
